What am I looking at? Is that a Ruger mini? Looks like the barrel is less than 16".

You gotta have a battle rifle. Now get out there and get some high-cap mags.

Yeah it is one version of the Mini 14.

On a side note I am reading on a few gun forums they are in the process of making new stock 30 round factory mags and they will be avaliable to the general public.

That's the NRA Special Edition Mini-14 w/ Hogue Overmold stock and 16 inch barrel. Ruger is selling 20rd mags and will be making 30rd mags available to the public. Get them while you can. I bet ole Bill is spinning in his grave...

Very handy little rifle, by the way.

They had 2 in stainless, and 1 wood... stainless looks way more bad a**! Especially when you see it with the clip on it!

Very nice. The Mini-14 is one of the ultimate SHTF firearms. Fine choice you made.

An NRA model, is it? I have that same gun (or at least I did before the boating accident).

You're gonna love it. I think if I could only have one, that would be it.

Very nice. I picked up something the other day as well.

A simple .22 so I can shoot cheap.

Very nice! I've got the Marlin Papoose on my "to buy" list also. It seems much nicer than an AR-7.

I love it...I've been looking at the mini series for a long time...I just cannot decide, there seem to be draw-backs on both the mini-14 and mini-30...

.223 sounds like a good calibur, but some states prohibit the hunting deer with it... : (

Did they ever work out the accuracy questions on Mini's?

I like um.

E-A

They say they reinforced the barrel to improve accuracy. I have considerably less shooting experience than many here, and I'm sometimes very surprised at what I can hit consistently with this rifle. Fun as hell!

Apparently so...the guys on the Mini forums all seem to agree the stiffer, tapered barrel on the newest Ranch Rifles fixes the problem and they are satisfied with the improved accuracy.

Over where I am Bi-Mart had a Mini-14 on sale for $650. Not sure if that was a good deal or not.

I had a chance to pick up and fond- ahem, handle an AR-7. Ugh! I'm sure it works but it feels like something Hasbro would make. The Papoose is a bit more "solid." Mind you, it won't float if you drop in a lake like an AR-7 so try not to go swimming with it.

Wait for the Ruger factory 30 rounders...aftermarket ones are hit or miss.

Re: I blame you guys!

A little birdie told me that Triple K (I think?) makes a 30rd mag for the Mini-14. The birdie also said he was required to do a minor bit of filing to get the mag to fit correctly, but after that it seemed to feed ok.

I only have 5 and 10 rd mags for mine, as I live in a non-free state.

Re: I blame you guys!

That $650 you can get it for Argentsum, is a deal. Around here, I got the best buy that I could at $729... by the time I bought the ammo, the cleaning supplies, and yes, the 30 round clip, I had more than a couple hundred more into it.

The clip is from Pro Mag... anyone have experience with these? I didn't know any better . I plan on another one or two, I will wait for the factory ones to come out.

I do have to confess, I haven't been able to shoot it yet... probably won't until next week. Busy around here doing the "snow is melting" cleanup in the feedlot... what a mess! Now it is the weekend and hubby is at work. I will not shoot alone (especially something new), so I need to wait for him to be home. I'll definitely let you know how it went when I do!

From the look of the Pro Mag that I have, it is identical to the factory Ruger mag. I suspect it is possible that Pro Mag makes Ruger's mags for them.

My Pro Mag works perfect every time...:ok:

Wow - you are going to like this rifle...!

Over center and hit a bump while backing up... no animals were injured in the making of this picture. The feed bunk, however, is another story... still needs fixed!
